Prayer is Key

Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.

1 John 5:14

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Psalm 145:18

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

What brings peace in troubled times? Relief to an anxious heart? Comfort to a wounded soul? Rest to the weary Christian? Hope for the future? Strength for the present? Grace for the trial? Mercy for each day? Patience in waiting? Trust in leading?

What is burden lifting? Life giving? Spirit filling? Soul convicting? Direction changing?

PRAYER. Prayer changes everything. It is the foundation that leads the soul to Christ and changes our entire perspective on life.

Are you troubled? Pray. Are you hurting? Pray. Are you wavering? Pray. Are you straying? Pray. Are you lonely? Pray. Are you hopeless? Pray. Are you searching? Pray

Prayer is the key that unlocks all that the Savior longs for you to have. So Pray. Pray again. Pray in faith. Pray when you’re doubting. Pray when you’re hurting. Pray when you’re broken. Pray when you have nothing to say. Whatever you do, just pray.

As the hymn "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" states: "Oh what peace we often forfeit. Oh what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer."

This hymn has been on my mind this week along with prayer and how much more I need to go to God in prayer. I hope this thought encourages you as well as this recording.

“Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

that calls me from a world of care,

and bids me at my Father’s throne

make all my wants and wishes known.

In seasons of distress and grief,

my soul has often found relief,

and oft escaped the tempter’s snare

by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

the joys I feel, the bliss I share

of those whose anxious spirits burn

with strong desires for thy return!

With such I hasten to the place

where God my Savior shows his face,

and gladly take my station there,

and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!

thy wings shall my petition bear

to him whose truth and faithfulness

engage the waiting soul to bless.

And since he bids me seek his face,

believe his word, and trust his grace,

I’ll cast on him my every care,

and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!”
