Romans 8: 1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
Romans is an incredible book about who we are without Christ and what we have in Christ. It is truly a pivotal book teaching us that salvation is through Christ alone. There is no law or works we can follow that will bring us salvation. It is through our faith in Jesus that we are justified and redeemed.
In chapters 7 and 8, we are told that we will always wrestle with sin. Paul even gives us his internal wrestling in chapter 7 verses 14-25. Unfortunately, as humans, we will make mistakes. We will fail many times over, but the amazing truth of salvation is that because of Christ I have no condemnation. I do not have to follow works to help avoid a punishment or live in defeat of my sin. I am forgiven because of Christ! There is nothing I can do or have done that releases me from condemnation, but it is all of Christ. My sins were nailed to the cross with Him.
So what does that mean for me? Can I sin with the idea that I am free? Remember, sin will never lead to freedom, only to defeat, control, and destruction. The amazing part about living free in Christ means that we are free from the bondage of our sin! We do not have to let our sin control us. Do not let your sin shackle you down. You are free to walk in the Spirit and not in your sin. Because of what Christ has done, our love for Him should drive us to obey Him rather than to live in sin. Live in the freedom God has given you through Jesus! But when you do fail, there is no condemnation -- there is no rejection of those who are in Christ Jesus.
When you fail, remember His patience and mercy as He forms you. Come back to Jesus and rest in His work at Calvary. Live in obedience to Him and walk in the Spirit. Live in His freedom and praise him that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ!
Let the words of this song encourage you about all you have in Christ!
